Commodity Research Book identifies opportunities for lithium battery recycling

The report finds “rapid and significant development of electric capacity is creating a vital opportunity to recapture and recycle the raw material components once they reach end of life. … The Commission for Environmental Cooperation forecast battery waste to grow from 276,000 units in 2015 to 1.5 million by 2030 in North America alone”. The report also highlights the importance of recycling lithium batteries in particular, due to ethical concerns of raw material mining (i.e. use of child labor in cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo).
