ABRI's vision is simple: to achieve battery stewardship in Australia

Draft stewardship proposal to be presented to stakeholders

Posted on: February 5th, 2014

A discussion paper on the proposed handheld battery product stewardship scheme will be presented to stakeholders at a meeting of the Battery Reference Group on 19 February 2014. The initial draft was developed by the Battery Implementation Working Group (BIWG), which includes government agencies and a number of associations including ABRI. The development of the scheme is being led by the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP).

The Battery Reference Group (BRG) has been established to assist the Working Group with the development of the scheme. This group is made up of associations and individual companies in the battery supply and recovery chain, or with an interest in battery recycling. It provides all interested stakeholders with an opportunity to provide input into the design of the scheme.

The next meeting of the BRG will be held in Canberra on Wednesday 19 February 2014 from 2pm to 4pm. This meeting will provide an update on the project to-date and also include a presentation on the draft product stewardship scheme discussion paper. Feedback on this paper will be sought following the meeting.

Please register your interest in attending this meeting by emailing Kylie Hughes, Project Manager (kylie.hughes@ehp.gov.au).
