This weeks article in Recycling International reports on new figures published by Transparency Market Research which indicates very strong growth in battery recycling in general. Unsurprisingly the report anticipates expansion in the lithium ion sector at a “very fast pace”. Also interesting to see the projected expansion of batteries from the electrical appliances segment. Australia’s current very low collection rates of batteries other than lead acid, suggests that we have some catching up to do. However, it is important to know that we have processors here in Australia that have developed innovative solutions and can scale up quickly, especially if a national stewardship scheme is established.
