The National Broadband Network (NBN) power supply (pictured) includes a battery when it is first installed into a home or business. The battery is a sealed lead acid battery, which is recyclable.
Lead acid batteries are classified as hazardous waste and must be recycled by a specialist battery recycler. Do not dispose of them in your household garbage or recycling bin.
Batteries that end up in landfill contaminate the soil and can leach acid, lead and other pollutants into ground water.
NBN Co has published a list of companies that can supply replacement batteries and/or take back used batteries for recycling. More information is available here.
