ABRI becomes the Association for the Battery Recycling & Reuse Industry
10 August 2026: The Association for the Battery Recycling Industry (ABRI) has changed its name to the Association for the Battery Recycling & Reuse Industry, reflecting the growing role of battery reuse within Australia’s circular battery economy.
Members agreed to the name change at the annual general meeting earlier this year, reflecting the evolution of Australia’s battery industry and ABRI’s membership, which spans organisations working across the battery value chain. As the sector grows, extending the useful life of EV batteries through reuse is becoming increasingly connected with resource recovery and clean energy development opportunities.
While our name has changed, ABRI’s purpose and direction remain the same.
ABRI remains Australia’s peak industry association for battery recycling and reuse, bringing together organisations from across the battery value chain to advance a safe, sustainable and circular battery industry.
Why has ABRI changed its name?
Adding “Reuse” better reflects the breadth of ABRI’s membership and the growing role of reuse within the battery value chain.
Where batteries can be safely reused, repurposed or have their useful life extended, more value can be retained before materials are ultimately recovered through recycling.
Our priorities remain unchanged
ABRI will continue to work with its members, governments, regulators and industry partners to strengthen Australia’s battery sector, with a focus on:
supporting the continuous improvement of industry standards to enable the safe and sustainable reuse and recycling of batteries
advocating for mandatory producer responsibility for batteries
advancing battery traceability to support safety, accountability and circularity throughout the battery lifecycle
promoting the economic opportunities associated with a strong Australian battery recycling and reuse industry
supporting collaboration across industry, government and the broader battery value chain.
A key strength of ABRI is its membership across the battery value chain. This breadth provides the association with practical industry insight and enables ABRI to work as an effective strategic partner on the policies, standards and systems needed to support a safer and more circular battery economy.
An updated name and logo
Alongside the name change, ABRI has updated its logo.
The change represents an evolution of the association rather than a change in direction. ABRI will continue its work representing members and advocating for the conditions needed to support a safe, sustainable and economically valuable battery recycling and reuse industry in Australia.
